Preventive Measures For Dog Allergy
Dealing with the common symptoms of dog allergy does not necessarily mean getting rid of your dog. That would be very harsh especially if you are already attached to your pet. If however, your allergies are severe that you start to experience asthma or anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction marked by drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing, itching, and swelling), it would probably be best if you find another home for your dog.
But if that is not the case, here are some things you can do to avoid getting all those symptoms and still have a dog as your pet:
- Clean your house always. Dog allergens, dander more specifically, can easily go around your house and stick to your furniture. It is therefore a must to regularly sweep your flow, vacuum your place, and clean the furniture. Better if you have a vacuum that has HEPA filter as this will be more effective in catching allergens in the air.
- Use filters to clean the air. Dog allergens easily float in the air and so it can go anywhere in your house, even in areas that are off limits to your dog. Filters will be of great help.
- Do not allow your dog go inside your bedroom. Although dog allergens do float in air and closing your bedroom door would not totally shut that air with allergens, it will reduce the amount of allergens from going in and out of your bedroom.
- Only allow your dogs to go to certain parts of your house. It is still best to try to keep your majority of your house free from dog allergens. Coupling this tip with the first one (regularly cleaning your house) will help you not go through allergy symptoms.
Having dog allergy will make you suffer from different symptoms, but with proper prevention and management, you can still live without completely shutting your dog out of your life.
