Preventive Measures for Deodorant Allergy

Avoidance of allergen is the best or may be the only way to prevent deodorant allergy. For this reason, it is important to know what particular ingredients or component of the deodorant you should avoid. Read the label of each product before using it or before letting it touch your skin.

The most common active ingredient of a good number of deodorants and antiperspirants that causes irritation is aluminum. This ingredient in its many forms can cause rashes under the arms, burning sensation of the skin, itching and stinging.

The forms of aluminum that causes skin irritation in the underarm are A. Chloride, A. Chlorohydrate, A. Zirconium trichlorohydrex, A. tetrachlorohydrex gly, and A. Zirconium compounds. These ingredients are readily absorbed by the skin and can mount up over time.

Another ingredient that may cause allergies are those derived from methylbenzene or toluence. These are methyl, propyl, butyl, ethyl, and benzyl or generally termed as parabens. These ingredients may be toxic when in contact with the skin.

Some common allergens in deodorants are talc, triclosan (an element that kills bad bacteria but may destroy healthy bacteria as well), silica, steareth, and propylene glycol. All of these are skin irritants.

However, these chemicals are not he only source of allergies. Some natural elements and fragrances in deodorant and antiperspirants are also sources of allergic reactions.

Now that you know which ingredients to avoid, you might be wondering how you can prevent underarm odor and sweating given that a large part of commercialized deodorants contain one or more or all of the said components. An all-natural rock stick is a great alternative and is even better and more effective protection from odor than deodorants containing aluminum elements. With the emergence of health and wellness, all-natural deodorants and antiperspirants that do not contain aluminum and has less harmful chemicals are now made available in the market.
