The Causes of Allergy Headaches

What can be the causes of an allergy headache?

  • When your head aches minutes after eating something, then it is probably caused by food allergy. It is generally the most frequent reason for headaches caused by allergies and it usually instigates recurrent migraines.
  • If you suffer from headaches when the weather changes, then your pain is most likely from a seasonal allergy.
  • If you notice that your headaches occur after taking in certain food or substances that has certain ingredients or chemical such as monosodium glutamate, then it is a chemical allergy.

So how can you differentiate an allergy headache from a normal migraine, cluster, or sinus headache? Allergy headaches, aside from the symptoms mentioned for each type of allergy headache, go together with these other symptoms:

  • Hives (repeated appearance of wheals, irregular, round skin lesions accompanied by inflammation and itching), swelling of lips, trouble with breathing, vomiting, faster heartbeat, and nasal congestion.
  • For sinus headache caused by allergies, symptoms may include upper airway symptoms like itching, runny nose, and sneezing.
